BabeSpiny Posted November 14 Posted November 14 (edited) Hello everyone, I saw this fossil being sold as an Allosaurus caudal vertebra. According to the description, it was found in the Morrison Formation and measures 4.4 inches long and 2.8 inches thick. I don't know much about Allosaurus vertebrae, so I'd appreciate hearing your thoughts. Thank you very much! Edited November 14 by BabeSpiny
TriVeratops Posted November 14 Posted November 14 Not sure about ID, but I’d ask what % of it is original fossil if the seller hasn’t disclosed that already. Looks heavily restored to me. 1
jpc Posted November 14 Posted November 14 This is one of those that might be Allosaurus or it might be a sauropod. The fact that the seller uses the plural 'vertebrae' to describe one vertebra, is a red flag. I checked out the site where it is listed as "Allosaurus rex". This tells me that the seller is either not knowing much, or using the word rex to make this bone seem more exciting. 1
