I found an old post last night asking folks to show fossils form each of the 50 US states.  In the middle of it coco suggested we could do the same for other countries, so I invite you all to submit fossils from your collections from France.

For those who are unfamiliar, France is divided into Departments, 96 of them, plus 5 for offshore holding (e.g. Martinique, La Reunion).  The challenge is to see if we can get all 96 Departments represented.  Bonus points for the offshores.

The Departments are all numbered as seen on this map ...

https://www.mapchart.net/france-departments.html

France has a very varied geology, so we ought to be able to get many different sorts of fossils here.

I will start the fun.  This is a Miocene bat jaw from Montaigu-le-Blin which is in No 3, Allier... central France.   The jaw is about 1.5 cm long.

BatJawlateral.jpg.a45295523718568a7ed77f3816d54e06.jpg

The next photo is a stereo-photo looking down on to the chewing surface.

Batjawstereo1b.jpg.4a2a126a8de43a3318a1c59a4dcf6969.jpg

I know there are a good few folks here who have French fossils... Ready set go....

If a Dept has already been posted, feel free to add more examples from there.

This sounds like fun, thanks @jpc!  I have never collected in France, but have acquired a few things through trade/auction etc.  I was surprised when I looked in my database that I have 9 Departments represented.  I will get a few pictures taken and get them added.

I'll start mine off with a couple of cephalopods from Department #79, Deux-Sevres. These are the Jurassic (Oxfordian) ammonites Dichotomosphinctes sp.  Thanks to Sophie @fifbrindacier for providing these (and most of my other French fossils) to me.

Hi @JPC,

I had not forgotten my idea, but I wanted to start the subject department by department in numerical order and leave a week per department so that everything is well organized and everyone can put their fossils.

For this purpose, I started to take pictures of my collection, but I am overwhelmed by life and I did not find the time to continue. I thought I had time, but you beat me to it

coco... my thought was that it would be nice to do it in numerical order, but what if no one had anything form No 4 and the project would, in theory, just stop.

Wow... kikokuryu... nice pile of French fossils.

Hi,

@jpc We would have gone to the next department a week later ;)
