Zoo Posted November 22 Posted November 22 Found this rock. Can anyone tell me what it is, who or how it was made and what it might be worth? Thanks for any help
ClearLake Posted November 22 Posted November 22 (edited) Welcome to the Forum! Unfortunately for you, .heic files are not supported on here so most members will not see your picture (reload it as a jpg). And, we do not do economic evaluations of specimens as clearly stated in the forum guidelines. Edited November 22 by ClearLake spelling 1
Fossildude19 Posted November 22 Posted November 22 @Zoo I converted the .heic to .JPG format for you. This looks like a cross between geologic boxwork and liesegang rings. These are geologic in nature, and not really worth anything to anyone, except maybe as examples of odd geology. 1 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 IPFOTM -- MAY - 2024 _________________________________________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." ClearLake Posted November 22 Posted November 22 Thanks for reloading the picture in a forum acceptable format, because that is a really neat looking rock. I agree that it is geologic in nature (not fossil) as already suggested and probably has been enhanced by some differential weathering. 1
Denis Arcand Posted November 22 Posted November 22 If i didn't know better, i would think it look like the imprint of some man made decorative mesh. Nature is amazing, if it was me i would keep it if possible One fossil a day will keep you happy all day. Welcome to the FOSSIL ART
Rockwood Posted November 22 Posted November 22 Another explanation could be a layered concretion and mud crack combo. 1
Ludwigia Posted November 22 Posted November 22 This one has me stumped. Never seen anything like it. I think this needs to be shown to an educated geologist. Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Roger http://www.steinkern.de/
DAS_Rex Posted November 22 Posted November 22 I’m from and in NE Arkansas. The hills I grew up running around on had a few of these formations in weathered rocky spots. Some were very pretty. We sometimes collected pieces and used them as decorations or curiosities. I’m not sure as to their true ID, but our teachers always called them a type of concretion.

Fossildude19 Posted November 26 Posted November 26 No faces. This is geologic in nature. If you are seeing faces, you are experiencing something we all know as Pareidolia. Personal value is subjective. We cannot tell you what the personal value is to you. That is up to you. Again, being a cool example of geology/geologic forces, it is interesting looking. That is all. Zoo Posted November 26 Author Posted November 26 This rock is about 8'x8' so far but there is a lot more I haven't uncovered. It was 2' deep on one end. I'm in Beebe AR. Thanks for any help.
Fossildude19 Posted November 26 Posted November 26 Topics merged. One is enough. It isn't a fossil, it is geologic in nature. As such, topic has been moved to GEOLOGY. Ludwigia Posted November 26 Posted November 26 Nevertheless, it would still interest me to hear from someone here as to exactly what it might be and how it was formed. Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Roger http://www.steinkern.de/

digit Posted November 26 Posted November 26 To me, this looks like a weathered example of boxwork. Do an internet image search for "boxwork geology" and you'll see similar examples. As to its worth, if you are claiming you are asking about how much it is worth to you (personal value) that is impossible for us to determine. If you are asking about market value, that is something we steer clear of on this forum. Cheers. -Ken 1
