Definitely something but ?? I would try to clean up one end to see if there is any structure present that would aid in ID. It does look like what you would expect from insect damage on the outside of a piece of wood.

Burrow casts with smaller traces in them are relatively common. Lacking better indication of wood texture, I think that is more likely unless branch casts are known to be more common in the area.
