Cracking a pseudofossil

I've long had this pseudofossil in the shape of a dinosaur skull that we found while on vacation somewhere in Italy. I split it, which gave an unexpected result. Inside there was an accumulation of clams and snails. By the way, is it possible to identify the period they come from? then I will send better photos in the Fossil ID section.

I thought fossil collecting was illegal in Italy?  :unsure:

Somewhere in Italy is too vague for ID.  :(
