Gault clay crab - Etyus Martini

This is one of my favorite crabs to be found out of the UK gault clay, its called Etyus martini.

Although a relatively common crab most seem to miss it. I always seem to find at least one each visit. The rugby ball shape always draws my eye.

As is common with most crab fossils found at this location, they are fossilized shells of the carapace. You can find them with an underside and legs/claws but its a very rare occurrence.

This example was found on the 17/11/24
