These were found underneath the crawl space of my front porch, about 3 feet deep.

I was cleaning the area and planning to put straw. I work with a catch and release program for stray cats.

Many freeze in the winter. I wanted to give the cats a clean place to get out of the snow. The house was built in 1910.

While cleaning, I found numerous rare apothecary bottles and other interesting things.

Out of curiosity, I dug deeper and found these . I “think” I also found several Native American gaming stones and tools… but don’t yet know of a forum for inquiring about those.

It may just be a coincidence, but this specimen looks like a vertebra to me.

A nurse said it reminds her of the tail bone. The smaller pieces were within inches of the larger piece.

They feel heavy and solid. A magnet doesn’t stick to them.
Any feedback is much appreciated. Everyone has been so kind, patient and helpful.

Thank you!

These look like slag from a smelting outfit.  One of the nice things about vertebra is, since they run down the middle of the back, they are symmetrical.  Also fossil bones have a boney texture.  These have none.  I am going with slag.

On the other hand... bravo for giving the cats a second chance.

Sorry, not bone or a vertebra.  There is an artifact subforum on here where you can post your other finds.

As someone who just spent an obnoxiously long time looking at dinosaur vertebrae (though I'm sure its just a normal day for jpc), +1 to the not a vert camp. I also have property around the same age. Dogs are always digging up old bottles, teacups, etc...that tends to be anywhere from a few inches to a foot deep.  They've yet to find me anything good but not for a lack of trying. Most interesting so far was an old patterned porcelain tea cup.

Also in the +1 camp applauding you on the cats.  I greatly respect that.

Much appreciated. Any thoughts on what it might be?

As mentioned above, likely industrial waste, from smelting ect.
