Shaun-DFW Fossils Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 I’ve been sitting on this unique ammonite+gastropod combo (mortoniceras species+gyrodes) that I found in a local creek where Fort Worth formation and duck creek can be found. I used a dremel 290 with a pointed short tip to blast off larger chunks, followed by the zoic paleo chisel tip for the more detailed work (I know, not as intended for the product), then a final dip for 7 seconds in a 50/50 muriatic acid and water combo. I coated it with baking soda immediately after for 30 seconds. I wasn’t sure what else to do with the matrix between the ammonite and the gastropod, any ideas?
Jaybot Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 You could maybe smooth it out with a rotary dremel. Just be careful that it doesn't catch and hit the ammo or gastropod . 1 -Jay Aspiring Naturalist “The earth doesn't need new continents, but new men.” ― Jules Verne, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea

This was going to be my suggestion as well. 1 Regards, Kris Global Paleo Services, LLC https://globalpaleoservices.com http://instagram.com/globalpaleoservices http://instagram.com/kris.howe

Thanks to both of you for the suggestion! The dremel marks are certainly a distraction. 1
