FranzBernhard Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 (edited) Not news, 4 years old, but I missed that completely: Dinosaurs from Carinthia, Austria - kaernten.ORF.at (in German). Some sort of "de ja vue" ? It took him 10 years to recognize the dinosaurs. Obviously they are in concretionary parts of bituminous limestone, he sees only black spots on breaking the slabs. Splitting does not result in any finds. Another "de ja vue"... Franz Bernhard Edited December 5, 2024 by FranzBernhard 4

FranzBernhard Posted December 5, 2024 Author Posted December 5, 2024 I have got a pic from my fossil friend with 6 specimens in a car. Have asked for permission of posting here. No, these are not from China... But its already an old story, first exhibit was already in 2018 and this year was a conference about this dinos in Carinthia. I just saw the mention of a TV docu two days ago. Franz Bernhard

FranzBernhard Posted December 5, 2024 Author Posted December 5, 2024 Ongoing research Project: Neue spektakuläre Saurierfunde aus Kärnten – Naturwissenschaftlicher Verein für Kärnten (in German) Interestingly, Partnach Formation is mentioned, which is significantly younger then 240 Ma. Area stretches for about 70 km from Liezen via Weißensee to the Drau valley. Anybody able to find something substantial published on these new specimens? Thanks! Found a Facebook-page: (12) Charinthia Triassic Reptiles | Facebook Ha, there are splits, too! And an older find from that stretch of land: SBAWW_189_0065-0082.pdf (with pics) Another paper from 1984: Carinthia_II_094_0079_0090.pdf Franz Bernhard
FranzBernhard Posted December 5, 2024 Author Posted December 5, 2024 Sorry, can not post this pic here! Franz Bernhard
FranzBernhard Posted December 5, 2024 Author Posted December 5, 2024 Automatic translation from the facebook page, text possibly from Karl Weiß, from January 12th, 2023: "How it all began🙃 For several years I have been collecting and preparing dinosaur fossils, plant fossils, fish and invertebrates from Carinthia and East Tyrol. Known from old literature, a few dinosaur relics were found in the last century...80s and 90s. The most famous fossil is probably the Neusticosaurus toeplitschi. After my first dinosaur relic in the Lienz Dolomites at the beginning of 2013, I became really curious about what else could be found. After a lot of reading, marching and knocking on the mountain, the first success came in 2015. I found the first dinosaur on the local mountain of my home community. This shouldn't have been the last find. A few weeks later I found another dinosaur at a different site...a baby Pachypleurosaurus. I then contacted my collector colleague Dr. Georg Kandutsch to work with him to dismantle the rock. "Unfortunately, the media claims that George is the great finder of dinosaurs, which is not entirely true." I now have a nice collection that I will gradually present here." Oh well, business as usual!! Franz Bernhard
jpc Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 NOt only did the press get the finder wrong... but these aren't dinosaurs. Anyway, exciting finds. 1
