Hey everyone,

I co-run my universities palaeo society and we are having a trip to the Writhlington spoil heap as an organised fossil hunt. Iv'e hunted there before and found some beautiful Fern and Lepidodendron fossils. However some of the fossils my friends and i  have found remain unidentified and id like to know if anyone has any good resources for identifying carboniferous plant fossils so i can draw up some guides for my societies members.

Thanks :)

Unfortunately, lots of work needs to be done to revise old works.
Not many people willing to do so, unfortunately.

This website has been a go to for ages for me, but the names are suspect at this point, and may be wrong on many counts.

Use Google Scholar. You will find info on other types of fossils such as trace fossils, shells and insects.

My goal is to leave no stone or fossil unturned.
