Waitiseearock Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 A few more finds from the Tampa Bay Area. Would the piece of coral be considered a fossil? It’s hard to tell but it’s druzy on the Inside of the piece. 2
Fossildude19 Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 Yes, they would be considered fossils. I see a few agatized corals there. @Sacha @Shellseeker 1 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 IPFOTM -- MAY - 2024 _________________________________________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." Your 2nd photo is definitely agatized. Your last 2 pieces are definitely fossil coral but not what I would consider agatized.....just silica replaced. Agatized would imply a clear or translucent replacement. Pockets of drusy crystals will occur in any silica rich environment where a void exists. Here's one of my better pieces showing crystals. 3

Upper right, Home page, search for Druzy or Botryoidal, or just coral or "Tampa Bay Coral" ... TFF keeps threads back 15 years.. It will be like a book, and you will get to see what others have found over time in Florida. @Sacha has some postings with fantastic finds. Here are a couple of mine.. or 1 The White Queen ".... in her youth she could believe "six impossible things before breakfast"
Waitiseearock Posted December 6, 2024 Author Posted December 6, 2024 @Sacha and @Shellseeker Wow those are absolutely gorgeous pieces! I’ve heard wonderful things about Peace River and a friend of mine and I are trying to coordinate a time to go there and explore! With a guide of course haha. Thank you both for sharing your knowledge about the Tampa Bay Areas treasures and what to keep my eye out for. Obviously im knew to the forum, but my love for rocks, minerals and shells go back to my childhood. It’s great to finally have found a site where I can share and learn about all the things I ( and we) love and find! 2

I completely agree. Whenever I’m researching, I often find the info I’m looking for on old TFF posts.
