Appears to be deer - a young deer judging by the missing epiphysis. Other than size, what are the distinctions that you perceive, Worthy? 1 http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest
tracer Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 yes, i was looking at it and looking at it, and thinking that i just don't know what else it might be. i was going to go to my, um, "area of storage" and look at one that i know is from a deer, but i didn't feel up to facing my "filing system" at the moment...

A complete deer calcaneum would have a knob-like process on the end. 1 http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest

Harry, Have an opportunity to dust off this old thread and get a couple of great comparison photos to newer members PLUS While paddling up a creek the other day, I was passing an 15 foot crumbling cliff with a 4 foot layer of shell materials close to the bottom. Just above the shell layer were occasional blackish bones. One was a little longer and I picked it out... Because it was 8 feet to the top of the cliff, I thought fossil but maybe not.. It is 4.25 inches long.... and looking at your chart would seem to ID as Bos. I guess it could have slid down the face of the cliff..
