masonboro37
I took my friend Lynn with me today to meet Don at the Belgrade quarry in Maysville, NC. The quarry is late Oligocene with other areas of the Haywood Landing member. This was her first time at the quarry and we had a delightful time! The weather was overcast and windy, some light rain showers. I still managed to get a mild sunburn. I thought what a perfect thing to do on my birthday today, fossil hunting with friends! With all the previous rain in the past week, we were certain to have a productive day. Lynn found a beautiful and sharp tipped stingray barb as well as many teeth and gastropods. I am so happy for her! We all tooted over to the micro gastropod spot and not as many there as last time. Anyways, I posted some pic's some of my finds. There is also this car which I drool over on the way home from the quarry. Just had to take a pic of it this time! Have a great weekend everyone. Great to see you Don! cowsharks
Libby, happy birthday! You have some nice finds there. As for the Barracuda tooth, not sure if you know this, but barracuda teeth have very small/faint serrations. If the tooth is in good condition, and your is, you should be able to see (use a loupe 10x) faint serrations along the cutting edges. Secondly, not sure about the Oligocene, but in the pic with the cowshark fragment, the two teeth above and to the left that look alike look very similar to a type of thresher I find in the Miocene; Alopias superciliousus. I'd say you had a decent b'day there. Daryl.
