Ok and i was mistaken it was not a river bed..but a mountain top, soo my next question is do u folks think there may be more fossils to be found in this area? Carson Posted August 7, 2013 Share Posted August 7, 2013 There is a great locality for rugosa coral at a quarry south of Elkins in the Pitkin Formation. I haven't visited the site in about 20 yrs so I don't know what current ownership situation is like. It took a little effort with hammer and chisel to collect them.
