TheAshBee Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 This is a vertebra I found in some Pleistocene material in the SC lowcountry. Does anyone know what animal this might be from and/or if it is a tail vertebra? Thanks!
Auspex Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 I've no idea what it is from, but it looks more like a metapoidal than a vertebra to me. RichW9090 Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 It's a mammalian caudal vertebra. Further, respondent sayeth not. 1 The plural of "anecdote" is not "evidence".
jpc Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 I agree with rich. One end is worn or broken so it looks a bit like a finger bone
TheAshBee Posted May 28, 2014 Author Posted May 28, 2014 Thanks guys. I didn't know if there was any way to narrow it down more than "mammalian"?
RichW9090 Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 With an adequate reference collection and a fair amount of time, there probably is some chance of a better identification. The plural of "anecdote" is not "evidence".
