quietfocus Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 (edited) Check out this imperfect interesting trilo. Obviously I could see before I did anything with it that the cephalon was chipped but I still assumed it was otherwise complete. Then as I was working on it I realized the cephalon was not complete and I was kinda bummed. But then as I continued to prep I found the parts below it, albeit after roughing them up a bit. I should have been more careful but I never thought they would be there. They could have turned out better if I had the forethought to look out for them. Live and learn. It is a rough prep I know, but I just have hand tools and an air eraser. Before: After: I just thought it was pretty cool that the broken parts were so near by. I thought it made for a cool piece. Wrangellian Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 Nice prep job anyway, and interesting bug - where is it from and how old?
quietfocus Posted May 25, 2014 Author Posted May 25, 2014 Nice prep job anyway, and interesting bug - where is it from and how old? Well considering it is an Oklahoma trilobite it can't be any older than 6k years or so......harhar Might have to live here to find that funny......sigh. So the first time I posted a trilo I found in this area piranha identified them as mississippian. I found these within 50 feet or so of all the others I have found here so I assume they are similar in age. Thanks for the kind words, folks. -Clayton "We are like butterflies who flutter for a day and think it is forever" - Carl Segan
Ramo Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 "Rough Prep" Holy cow! I can't imagine anything better with all the tools of paleontology at your disposal! Ramo For one species to mourn the death of another is a new thing under the sun. -Aldo Leopold
Pumpkinhead Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 Nice trilo. I think that the fact hat it's incomplete just adds to the already large amount of mystery and intrigue fossils have. An excellent find. It's missing parts give it character.
quietfocus Posted May 25, 2014 Author Posted May 25, 2014 "Rough Prep" Holy cow! I can't imagine anything better with all the tools of paleontology at your disposal! Ramo Well thank you very much Ramo. I am doing less damage and getting better with each prep. Nice trilo. I think that the fact hat it's incomplete just adds to the already large amount of mystery and intrigue fossils have. An excellent find. It's missing parts give it character. Thank you Pumkinhead. I feel the same way. At first I was disappointed that it was not complete but especially when I found the other parts it really grew on me. -Clayton "We are like butterflies who flutter for a day and think it is forever" - Carl Segan
