enoscrawler Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 This looks like a little hand print on a chunk of crushed gryphea
Roadrunner Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 (edited) I think that I've seen some brachiopods that in profile might possibly look like that (tiny 4-fingered hand print). I remember thinking how interesting that they looked spiked. However, I'm having trouble finding them tonight. I'll look more tomorrow. Can you tell us how "tiny," and also where you found it? Thanks. Edited June 18, 2014 by Roadrunner
Roadrunner Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 (edited) I found this, but as yet - no photos. ....lophophores of larger brachiopods are folded in moderately to very complex shapes—loops and coils are common, and some species' lophophores resemble a hand with the fingers splayed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brachiopod But that says "larger" ones, unless they can do the same while still small. JohnJ Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Lake Texoma along the TX / OK border covers a lot of different geology. Your avatar appears to be a geologic map, so you might be able to suggest the geologic formations in the area of this find. Posting that kind of info will get you a better chance at an accurate ID.
