Troodon Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 I'm not an expert in this region but here is some information from a collectors point of view. You are in a region that is not completely understood, with limited information available and teeth are coming out in the market. This form of tooth is what most commercial dealers call Bothriospondylus madagascariensis. However I've seen larger teeth that are a bit different in shape also called Bothrio. So most dealers are clueless in what they are selling and just want to put a commercially acceptable name on their product. Also a recent paper feels that most of the material assigned to Bothrio should be assigned to Lapparentosaurus madagascariensis. So I don't really know what the answer is and cannot find technical papers to support an ID of these forms but I'm not giving up. If this tooth is Jurassic from the Isalo III formation it can be this species but I caution you to jump too quickly. Aside from the two mentioned earlier there are numerious Jurassic and Cretaceous sauropods species from Madagascar whose teeth have similar shapes and are easy to confuse. I know you would like a specific species label for your specimen but for the time being I would label it Unidentified Sauropod.
