New Members xylano Posted July 11, 2014 New Members Posted July 11, 2014 Hi, My friend supposedly found this tooth (1.5”) in the Swanee river some time ago. I have no idea what animal it belongs to. If anyone can identify this, it would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks Dwain
New Members xylano Posted July 11, 2014 Author New Members Posted July 11, 2014 (edited) Thanks for the replies. My mate is going to be disappointed...he got it looked at by an "expert" recently and according to him it was an amphicyon canine tooth. It kind of didn't look right to me - hence the reason for this post. Edited July 11, 2014 by xylano
Harry Pristis Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 The canine appears to be from a smaller carnivore, likely a canid. Canis edwardi was a small wolf. http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest
JohnJ Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 As usual, excellent images, Harry. The human mind has the ability to believe anything is true. - JJ Do while you can because the day will come when you cannot...and you would give much to do it one more time. - JJ
New Members xylano Posted July 12, 2014 Author New Members Posted July 12, 2014 (edited) Thanks Harry, the photos are definitely a big help! I had a chat with someone from the American Museum of Natural History and they also came to the same conclusion (although they wern't as specific as you). Edited July 12, 2014 by xylano
