Hi,

My friend supposedly found this tooth (1.5”) in the Swanee river some time ago.

I have no idea what animal it belongs to. If anyone can identify this, it would be greatly appreciated!!

Looks like a small whale, or big Dolphin to me.

Thanks for the replies.

My mate is going to be disappointed...he got it looked at by an "expert" recently and according to him it was an amphicyon canine tooth.

It kind of didn't look right to me - hence the reason for this post.

The canine appears to be from a smaller carnivore, likely a canid. Canis edwardi was a small wolf.

Thanks Harry, the photos are definitely a big help!

I had a chat with someone from the American Museum of Natural History and they also came to the same conclusion (although they wern't as specific as you).
