New Members Woopie Posted July 11, 2014 New Members Posted July 11, 2014 Hello! Last summer when I was in Yellowstone national park for a hike I saw an unusual stone sticking out of a mud wall. Could be human made but I've never seen anything like it before. Greetings!
RichW9090 Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Hard to see any detail in that picture, but appears to be just a water-worn cobble to me. The plural of "anecdote" is not "evidence".
Fossildude19 Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Looks like a concretion to me. Auspex Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 I agree that it appears to be geologic, not organic. Be careful about taking things out of a National Park; the fines are stiff! erose Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 I agree that it appears to be geologic, not organic. Be careful about taking things out of a National Park; the fines are stiff! Major second on those words of warning! Collecting in a national park is strictly forbidden and the fines are high. Couple of years back someone told me about being pulled over in Big Bend NP here in Texas. The ranger noticed the rock hammer on a seat and asked the driver to open the trunk. He then spent an enormous amount of energy convincing the ranger that the fossils in the trunk had been collected outside of the park. That was the truth but he actually had no way to prove it other than a lengthy discussion/plea with the ranger. He said he would have been arrested and his car impounded.
Herb Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 I think that is part of the giant marshmallow man from Ghost Busters when he exploded. seriously, geologic.
