givensc13 Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 I recently came across an old box of fossils and rocks belonging to my father. I believe these fossils came from Michigan but I am not certain since most came without id or accompanying information. I have attached two pictures of the fossil and can provide more if that would help. Please let me know if you can provide any information -- it would be greatly appreciated.
Auspex Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 You have a Rugose "horn" coral; it could easily be from Michigan. Fossildude19 Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 I agree, Nice rugose coral. Petoskeygal Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 It looks like Horn Coral (Rugosa). It looks complete with the tail - nice! We mostly find them here in Michigan along the beaches in segments with no tail, just segments. This one is nice.
Herb Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Nice horn coral, probably Devonian. ZiggieCie Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Here is a favorite link I use for helping ID Mich area fossils. Click on a green area for photos of fossils from the area, or scroll down the page for fossil types. http://michiganbasinfossils.org/
Herb Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 that specimen shown as a Favosites colony looks more like Alveolites.
