Looks like some sort of sponge to me. Is it hard, heavy?

Maybe just a plate of whether limestone… I can't see any evidence it is a fossil

As calhounenis said, it is a part of a turtle plastron, the bone on the bottom of a turtle shell. Here is a link to a photo.

The plural of "anecdote" is not "evidence".

It most likely means it's modern, not a fossil.
