Doug D. Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Here's another unusual eBay find. The seller told me these come from "a road cut on hwy 177 which runs between Dickson and Sulphur Oklahoma right at the Murray and Carter County line". Maybe there are some people on here who are familiar with the area. I love the deep ribs on these! They look like Pliomerops, but that isn't one of the commonly offered trilobites from OK, and most of the pictures I have seen are members of this genus from other sites. Anyone familiar with this? I learn from this forum everyday, thank you all for being here!
enoscrawler Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Wow it doesn't look like the trilobites I find kinda resembles huntonia oklahomae
enoscrawler Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Bobwill will know he's familiar with that road cut I believe
piranha Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Although It looks similar to Pliomerops, it's a better match with Cybelopsis, another Simpson Group pliomerid trilobite. The Cybelopsis figures in Shaw 1974 are limited, so here is another one to illustrate the key difference with the pygidium of Pliomerops. Note the axial rings of Pliomerops terminate into pygidial lappets. Your specimen matches with Cybelopsis with the axial rings ending at the terminal axial piece. Along with the right side ribs being absent, this specimen would appear to also be missing the left side anterior rib and axial ring. Nonetheless, congrats on these unusual finds! Shaw, F.C.
