TyrannosaurusRex Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 I will be in Namibia South Africa big game hunting in a few months. So of course I wanted to see about what fossils there are to find there? I've heard of mesosaurs but I don't know if it's true.
jpc Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Namibia or South Africa? I've heard Windhoek is the nicest city on the continent. There is a Triassic dinosaur bonebed similar to Ghost Ranch's Coelophysis quarry in a National Park there, but if I told you about it, I'd have to kill you. 1
Down under fossil hunter Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Plus South Africa has about the strictest fossil collecting laws in the world. Pretty sure you can get 25-life just for saying the word Fossil in a public space. 1
Ludwigia Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 As far as I know, it's not quite as bad in Namibia, but they are pretty strict. Taking things out of the country is practically impossible without official permission. There are at least some sites which can be visited. You'll just have to do some research on that, but here's a link for starters: http://www.steinkern.de/english-articles/1079-the-petrified-forest-of-khorixas-namibia.html 1 Greetings from the Lake of Constance. TyrannosaurusRex Posted January 19, 2015 Author Posted January 19, 2015 Well that's too bad. Thanks for the warning!
