Scylla Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 (edited) For ages, since the start of science actually, when the results of scientific inquiry displease those with power, those with power try to stop the scientists. Usually the scientist is vindicated and later generations look down upon the powerful who attempted to suppress the truth. ( just one example: Galileo is considered a hero of discovery, most schoolchildren learn his name. Anyone remember the name of the judge that passed sentence on him? I mean without looking it up on Google. ) http://arstechnica.com/science/2015/01/fruitful-fossil-database-targeted-by-us-house-science-committee/ Edit: can't seem to get the link to work, just scroll down on the linked page to get the story, it first appeared Jan. 19. Auspex Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Peter Daempfle's book Good Science, Bad Science, Pseudoscience, and Just Plain Bunk is an outstanding read about the contemporary challenges facing the application of science in daily lives. I wish everyone would read it!
