New Members mikedameron Posted January 23, 2015 New Members Posted January 23, 2015 While posted in Turkey with the Dod I was able to hunt some fossils in a dry lake bed somewhere NW of Ankara. It's been many years. The fossils are of boney fish about two inches (5 cm) long and bedded in a whitish soft, layered stone (limestone?). The local GI's had a "handed down" brochure of things for week-end outings and this place was one of those. ..to keep us sober and out of trouble, I suppose. It seemed to be a popular destination for English speakers stationed in the area. I'm hoping I can find someone that may know more than I remember, i.e. the name of the site, approx. age, etc. I just re-mounted the pieces and I know my grand kids are going to ask the obvious questions. Thanks either way Mike
Fossildude19 Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 (edited) Welcome to the Forum! You might try researching the Tuglu Formation, in the Cankiri Basin - which, if I am reading correctly, ranges from the Oligocene to the Pliocene in age. Regards, EDIT:... any chance of some pictures of said fish fossils??? Also, another google search LINK.
