Chief Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 Just a shout out. Leaving the snowy mountains of central Pa. on Sunday ( right now it is -4 degrees , wind chill -20) and headed to Arcadia then Venice. Hope to have a fun time. Planning on doing a canoe trip if possible on the Peace then some shore diving off one of the Venice beach area's. How goes the beach replenishment and will this effect my plans for shore diving? My daughter wants to check out the manatee's so might have to check out some of the springs too. Maybe Ill see you on the river.
Khyssa Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 (edited) The Peace river has been pretty high this year so I'm not sure how much luck you will have there. For the beach I would suggest going to Caspersen which is on the southern end of Venice and make sure you go at low tide. Once the tide comes in you won't find much of anything. I don't have any experience with shore diving so I can't help you there. If you have the time and are willing to drive up to Citrus county (about 2.5 hour drive north of Venice) I suggest visiting Crystal River's Three Sisters Spring and Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park. You will see plenty of manatee's along with other Florida wildlife. http://www.citruscounty-fl.com/menu.html http://www.riverventures.com/three-sisters-springs-florida.html Edited February 20, 2015 by Khyssa
Chief Posted February 20, 2015 Author Posted February 20, 2015 Thanks for the information and links to the sites, that is exactly what my daughter is looking for. Guess Ill be headed up there too. If the river is high is it possible to snorkel or dive the river?
Khyssa Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 I'm not experienced with either snorkeling or diving but I do know that the river is running fast. Hopefully someone with more experience will reply. You might want to post something to the fossil hunting trips page for a quicker response. I think people check out that page more often than they do this one.
jcbshark Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 Normally if the river is high it's also pretty crappy viz. The viz nearshore the gulf will be ok unless we get onshore winds but it's pretty chilly this time of year. Good luck! : ) Every once in a great while it's not just a big rock down there!
