RandyB Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Found lots of the expected shark teeth and many chunks of dugong rib bones, but looking for assistance/confirmation for a few of our finds from last week just outside of Wauchula, Fl. Any assistance is appreciated. Kind of looks like a scapula, front and back view Interesting end to this bone, 3 angles shown scale: squares are 1/4"
RandyB Posted March 24, 2015 Author Posted March 24, 2015 land tortoise shell fragment? unidentified vertebra
RandyB Posted March 24, 2015 Author Posted March 24, 2015 (edited) Are these all Megs? Any way to tell what species of horse this is from? Edited March 24, 2015 by RandyB
Cam28 Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Nice megs. Not an expert but the vert resembles those of marine mammals, could be whale. The horse tooth is most likely Equus (Pleistocene) but posting a picture of the chewing surface would help.
calhounensis Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 The horse is probably too beat up for any exact ID. Definitely one of the Pliocene-Miocene horses. There appears to be an isolated stylid there. Two possible IDs would be Callippus or Nannippus.
