FireStar Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Hello everyone! I'm new to the forum but am eager to learn from you all. I go rockhounding around Hanksville, UT several times a month and am frequently up trying to discover what my latest find is. Still, there are always some mysteries. My newest search is for coprolite (I always have a mission) and my next stop is Shootaring Canyon. I've seen several examples that my neighbors claim are coprolite, but I'm still baffled how to identify it. The ones I was shown were quite large. I'm adding a picture of a small one I thought might be coprolite, a piece I think could be fossilized root (?) and another piece that I would like to know if it is bone. Thanks!!!
John K Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 I have another, perhaps piece of fern?IMG_20150402_094433.jpg more than likely a cross-section of a bryozoa

FireStar Posted April 2, 2015 Author Posted April 2, 2015 Thank you so much, John K., Carl, and abyssunder! I go hiking all over southern Utah but I actually found the bryozoa right off the highway.
