frenchy2 Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 We found this nice little crab Archaeopus vancouverensis at Collishaw Point on Hornby Island (Lambert formation, Upper Cretaceous). We found a few more bits of fossils, but this is the prize winner of the trip.
rejd Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 That is a beauty. A fossil hunter needs sharp eyes and a keen search image, a mental template that subconsciously evaluates everything he sees in his search for telltale clues. -Richard E. Leakey http://prehistoricalberta.lefora.com
RJB Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 What rejd said. That one has great prep potential!!! A super find! RB

RB After a serious discussion with the " in house palaeontologist" ( my 10 year old son Dom), we decided to leave it as is. We are a bit worried about damaging some of the legs details and we have very limited experience prepping marine concretions.
Ludwigia Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 After a serious discussion with the " in house palaeontologist" ( my 10 year old son Dom), we decided to leave it as is. We are a bit worried about damaging some of the legs details and we have very limited experience prepping marine concretions. A wise decision. On first glance I said to myself that that would be a heckuva prepp job with no guarantee of success. Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Roger http://www.steinkern.de/
fossisle Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Yes leave it ,the actual crab seems a bit flaky. If you prep it you would have to treat it and it will not look the same after. Maybe if you find a few more then attempt the prep. Cheers Rick Cephalopods rule!!
