If it was cuprit there should be some other copper minerals present , but I see none.

My opinion was based on these pieces of cuprite I purchased in Tucson last winter. Note one has some green indicating copper, but the other does not. Similarities are in the copper present in Hazelnut's photos and mine.

Hey Jim,

Very nice specimens. In the second picture the metallic luster of the copper in the piece is very apparent, while I do not see that in the piece that Hazelnut posted. Also the structure of the 2 pieces looks different.

I still say it is jasper. But a hardness test would solve the question.
