Hi all!

Found this this weekend in Surf City, NC while scouring the beach for shark teeth. I thought it was whale bone, but there is a hole bore through it. Not sur if it is whale bone because of that, and if it is, what in the world would drill through the bone like that. Hole is end to end. Thanks for the help!

Looks like it might be a section of a rib. Can't pin down a specific species.

Since its a small section of bone it will be rather hard to say what it is.....it can be a whale rib.

It is clearly a piece of bone; a section of long bone, judging by the "marrow cavity". I think it is not as flat as most rib bones, though, and small for a whale rib in any case.
