New Members giec Posted June 25, 2015 New Members Posted June 25, 2015 Hi everyone! I found these fossils in a quarry near to Moscow, according to what i've read in the internet in that quarry fossils are from jurassic, they are marine, and sometimes it's possile to find ichtyiosaurus and plesiosaurus, Could you please help me in identifying to which dinosaurs do these fossils belong? Thank you!
Troodon Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 The tooth in your first image looks like a jurassic shark tooth possibly Sphenodus sp. Might even be a S. Schourowskii.
New Members giec Posted June 26, 2015 Author New Members Posted June 26, 2015 Thank you very much for reply! and what about vertebras? i took also these 2 pictures of the largest vertebra. I would say that the small ones are of ichthyosaurs but this big one i have no idea, it looks too big and thin
Mike from North Queensland Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 The larger specimen looks like ichthyosaur to me the thickness you are worried about is normal con cave both ends. You would be looking for a different id if the vertebra was twice as thick. Attached are some samples of ichthyosaur from my collection of finds. Can not tell from your photos but if the smaller ones look like little bricks for want of a better description they could be from the fins. Mike
New Members giec Posted June 28, 2015 Author New Members Posted June 28, 2015 Nice find yours! about the largest one i agree it is quite similar to those you found. About the small ones i add here some more detailed pictures, they look to me differents from the "bricks" you posted..
New Members giec Posted June 28, 2015 Author New Members Posted June 28, 2015 Moreover, very close to the 3 small vertebras i found also this thing (pictures in attachment) that could also be a bone. The largest vertebra instead was some 50 meters away from them so i guess they are not related..
4circle Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Hi geic, The vertebrae do indeed look like those of ichthyosaurs (thought the differences with some plesiosaurs can be quire subtle). The third set of photos you posted - it's hard to see from the photos whether they're fossil bone or concretions, but that second image does make it lok like weathered Jurassic bone, and if they are ichthyosaurian then it's the atlanto-occipital and basioccipital of an ichthyosaur (the flexible joint where the top of the spine meets the skull). Nice finds
