In less than 4 years of fossil hunting I have somehow accumulated so many fossils that I have out grown the house, and now the garage, and am looking at housing my collection and supplies in the barn. I need your suggestions on how I should decorate this on the outside as I'm at a loss... :-(

Here is the overview of the barn.

That top triangle is where I'm thinking something should be. It is a little better than 3' high and almost 6' wide.

And if anyone has a better idea, I'm open! :-)

The horse in front has to go, as I backed into it last winter. :-(

So here is where I'm caught...

LOVE this T-red for $99 from Design Tuscano

Too hard to mount up top, but could replace the horse. I would prefer a velociraptor or hadrosaur, but heck.

Then I was looking at the pterodactyl they have for $50 but it is so small -

for some reason the image won't upload.

And there there is the raptor skeleton, 27" long, could be wall mounted, but it just wouldn't show up. Unless maybe I put a black oval board behind it, mounted it on that and hung it in the triangle.

Again, the image won't load.

But then, we are Ordovician and not Jurassic here. So I was thinking how I could create a wood cut out of a Maclurites. Seems to be THE fossil of Fillmore County. :-)

Facing down of course.

I thought I would put one of my smaller display aquariums in there of fossils, my fluorescent fossil collection, my 8' fossil prep table and tools, etc. And I'd have a place for my 5 gallon buckets of fossils that need to come in for the winter.

What would YOU do????

And do you have any pictures to share of your fossil storage areas?

The more I learn, I realize the less I know.

There are several companies that make aluminum casts that look like bronze. They come in raptor, T-Rex, Diplodocus, Triceratops, and more. They are relatively inexpensive. I would suggest looking at something like that.

What a fun project.

I remember a post about an exhibitor at the Tucson show that had giant steel trilobite sculptures...

Something like that might look pretty good up on that gable!
