Rockwood Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 I think this is probably vuggy limestone. I collect samples of things like this anyway, and decided to include it as part of the tutorial.
Al Dente Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 I think this is a piece of slag. It looks like nice round bubbles. If it is limestone it should fizz with a little vinegar.
Rockwood Posted July 23, 2015 Author Posted July 23, 2015 Apparently I was wrong. It has no reaction to vinegar. It will be interesting to see what the locals say about slag in Ramanessin. Could it actually be bone. T Rex would be nice.
Carl Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 Not bone, Rocky. Sorry. I have found this stuff at the brooks before and I don't know what it is, exactly, but I do sense that it is man-made.
Darwin Ahoy Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 Perhaps a glacial erratic? They are pretty common.
Rockwood Posted July 24, 2015 Author Posted July 24, 2015 Perhaps a glacial erratic? They are pretty common. There's a thought. Possibly volcanic, or related to an igneous intrusion. I see a lot of that here in Maine.
