Zapins Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 I found a few fossils on a recent trip up the road in Tennessee. I was lucky enough to find a fossilized tree trunk which I managed to dig out of the cliff (partially). I may return in a year or so and see if I can get the rest of it out of the road cut once it has had a chance to weather a bit and loosen up. I also found a little bat that had apparently crawled into a crack in the rock face and was sleeping until I unknowingly ripped a wall off its house poor thing was not too pleased with that. All in all it was a good hunting trip!
M.Vignesh Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 They are really cool. Have you identified the fossils?
Zapins Posted July 29, 2015 Author Posted July 29, 2015 (edited) I'm not 100% sure, but I think the fossils are all from different parts of a calamites and Lepidodendron tree. If anyone knows for sure let me know. Also, I was thinking of somehow attaching the broken pieces of the trunk back together again. I was thinking that I should drill 2 holes in each piece and insert a metal rod into each section and epoxy it in place, in order to permanently reatach the broken pieces together. Any thoughts on this or how to repair the pieces? Edited July 29, 2015 by Zapins
Fossildude19 Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 Neat fossils, and a pretty bat. Thanks for posting. TNCollector Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 I always enjoy seeing fellow Tennessee collector's finds. That looks to be Lepidodendron I think. Really cool!
