njfossilhunter Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 (edited) Well I went back to Big Brook today to look for more Ghost Shrimp Burrows and after searching my spot I decided to poke around some more and do some screening and came across this bone just laying there between two large branches in the stream. I'm guessing it Dino...probably from a Hadrosaur,,,,because of its shape and density of the bone,,, I'm thinking its part of the hip. What do you think. Thank you fro any help provided Tony Also I found this today,,,,I'm calling it ....Heart Brake on Big Brook Ridge...What a bummer. It would have been a great Mosasaur tooth Edited August 9, 2015 by njfossilhunter TonyThe Brooks Are Like A Box Of Chocolates,,,, You Never Know What You'll Find. squali Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 Cool find Tony. I can see the resemblance to the mos. tooth while searching At 3 cm length it seems tough to nail it down. It's hard to remember why you drained the swamp when your surrounded by alligators.
jpevahouse Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 Pleistocene era bones are also occasionally found at Big Brook, mastodon, etc. I find fragments of what are probably mosasaur and hadrosaur bone but exact identification can be difficult to impossible. Late Cretaceous deposits in NJ can also contain fragments of turtle and crockadile bones. I doubt an accurate identification of your bone fragment is possible.
Jeffrey P Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 Congratulations. You definitely have a knack for spotting things most would overlook. I'm thinking you should bring that next time you visit the NJ State Museum. It does appear to resemble other dino bone fragments I've seen.

Its Cretaceous..without a dought....The bone is much to dense with only showing open cell structure at the very tip...ID maybe be tough unless you had this fossil in hand and comparing it to other specimens.
