mikeymig Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Just found on 8/18! This huge (7.5") and very rare Phyllocarid is 100% complete with both halves of the carapace as well as the tail. There is little to no crushing of this incredible 3D fossil crustacean. You see it as it was found. I split open a piece of hard nodule layer rock lying in a stream and there she was. The size is amazing making it the largest Devonian Phyllocarid presently in my collection. Much rarer then trilobites, I find only 1-2 good/OK Phyllocarids in a year. This specimen is a once in a lifetime fossil Phyllocarid. thanks, Mikey The pics are of both halves of the same specimen and they do little justice to the actual fossil. Many times I've wondered how much there is to know. led zeppelin
-Andy- Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 snarge! That's a whooper indeed. Take a big, clear photo in bright daylight man. Let us see the full magnificence of this specimen. Looking forward to meeting my fellow Singaporean collectors! Do PM me if you are a Singaporean, or an overseas fossil-collector coming here for a holiday!

I only have two phyllocarids in my collection, and the largest is like, 3 inches,... maybe. What an incredible find! Thanks for showing us this, Mikey! mikeymig Posted August 26, 2015 Author Posted August 26, 2015 Thanks gang! It was very hard to photograph but I will try to take more pics when the sun is out. I have some incredible Phyllocarids in my collection but this specimen is very special and I knew that the moment I found it. I have had other Phyllocarids prepped out but they are very difficult to do and since its so rare I will wait until I show it to others. Mike Pocock Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Very nice find, green with envy is not quite how I would put it, maybe sick with desire. Regards Mike
Jeffrey P Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Great find Mikey. I found a number of them last fall and this year, but that's way bigger than the largest ones I've found. Congratulations. Great that it is so intact, including the tail.
