New Site Carb Plants Upper Carb

Hi all just got some new specimens of plant material from a new site , A rock cut at my work place of all places my boss gave me permission to investigate and collect . Anyway the site is in uppermost series of pennine coal measures westphalian C the specimens were collected from a thin band of shale and mud stone between layers of red sandstone

Geology

Rock type: Shale/mudstone

Period : Upper Carboniferous Westphalian C

Formation: Pennine upper Coal measures

Area : NE Wales Flintshire

Im thinking

1 Pseudopecopteris dimorpha a partial leaf i think ?

2 Alethopteris s.p

3 Cyclopteris s.p

4 not sure root with something hmm

5 is from old site im thinking some kind of worn fish spine

Hello Chris!

Fossil Hunting at work now? I like it. :)

I would agree with your assesments on 2, 3, and 5.

1 and 4 - I am having a hard time making out what they are ,... I think the contrast between fossil and rock isn't enough for me to see enough detail to be able to hazard a guess.

Cool stuff, though - especially the fin spine.

Hi Tim sorry for late reply been away on a overhead crane operating course at work

thanks for your confirmation on 2,3,and 5 yes the pictures were hard to take because of the contrast after looking at 4 i think it maybe a broken Carbonicola s.p shell mixed in with the plant material

It was intersting to look for these at work ( during my break I hasten to add !!) and very good of my boss to give me permission
