Coryander Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 Dear friends, I found this on a beach in Algarve, Portugal. I learned in this forum they are Miocene, but would like to know approximate age. Thank you.

Troodon Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 If you would like PDF's of the ages here is another good link http://www.geosociety.org/science/timescale/ 1
abyssunder Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 What you have here is a good collection of pectinids (pectinidae) in matrix, that looks very similar to what I found usually in the Miocene strata of my site in Caras-Severin County, Romania. The Algarve Basin (as I showed in the first thread of yours) belongs to Neogene, which comprise the Miocene and the Pliocene. Concluding based to what you found there, the approximate age could be between 23 - 5 mya (if only just Miocene), but could be extend to 3 mya (if Pliocene is included). Coryander Posted September 1, 2015 Author Posted September 1, 2015 Now I know they can be between 3 and 23 million years old. And I'm glad is a "good" collection! Thank you all.
