Hi All,

A friend of mines daughter found this on New Brighton Beach Wirral near Liverpool in the UK.

It looks like coral but i am not sure its similar to a horn coral in shape but its bigger than the ones I have or have seen.

Its 6cm long and 4 cm wide at its widest point.

Any help would be appreciated .

It's probably a horn. They quite easily get to be that size.

Yes, it's a horn coral, a caniniid I think although it would need sectioning to be sure. Could be an erratic Siphonophyllia which occurs in outcrops at the top of Morecambe Bay, they can be huge.

Thanks very much for the quick response.

I know a little girl who will be delighted with the fact that she actually found a fossil all on her own.

Mike
