kurtl Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 Here are a few examples of what I've found recently I'm relatively inexperienced so these are big for me. I don't know if I should try to expose more or leave them be. http://m.imgur.com/3lDWiDx http://m.imgur.com/JOhnz7L http://m.imgur.com/V6DnFNA http://m.imgur.com/mQFsrSg
Auspex Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 I'll attach one of your images here; it will get better attention than an off-site link: "There has been an alarming increase in the number of things I know nothing about." - Ashleigh Ellwood Brilliant “Try to learn something about everything and everything about something.” - Thomas Henry Huxley >Paleontology is an evolving science. >May your wonders never cease!
Troodon Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 I would leave the other two alone. The one that Auspex attached probably could benefit with some cleanup around exposed specimens.
ZiggieCie Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 Very nice finds, and welcome to the Forum.
kurtl Posted September 12, 2015 Author Posted September 12, 2015 Thanx ill get to work with those fragments soon, see what I can find.
kurtl Posted May 11, 2016 Author Posted May 11, 2016 To revive this thread a little I tried to expose a little bit of the trilobite fragments but wasn't working out too well so I stopped. I did however split one of the less interesting pieces and exposed another coral and something else I'm not sure of yet. Just ordered devonian fossils of new york state for reference. Anyway the fossils are in very delicate sandstone and it seems this area has tons of fragmented trilos. Should I try splitting more or just leave them be? One of the larger pieces has a few what looks like compound eyes of a large trilo and that dimpled looking "nose".
Fossildude19 Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 This one is a very cool imprint of a Pleurodictyum americanum coral. I wouldn't touch this one, either. caldigger Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 Coral?! I thought it was where the Ninja Turtles laid out for some sunbathing.
kurtl Posted May 11, 2016 Author Posted May 11, 2016 Does anybody have info on trilobite mountain in Port Jervis?

kurtl Posted May 11, 2016 Author Posted May 11, 2016 Excellent thank you. You seem to be a fan of dead fish are there any in New York state?
Fossildude19 Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 Devonian fish teeth and placoderm armor. I have seen some here on the forum. I think the NYPS takes field trips to a quarry where you can find Onchyodus ?teeth.
