Odd Tooth Found Today 9-12-15

I found this odd tooth today on the Chesapeake bay. It seemed larger than a normal dolphin tooth. I actually found one dolphin tooth today and took a picture of it besides the big tooth for comparison. The large tooth is about 1.25 inches, could be closer to 1.5 inches if it was straightened out. Sorry about the pictures, some are out of focus. I have my opinion but I will defer to the pros. Thanks for any help on identifying this one. :-)

Kentriodontid, me thinks.

I'm guessing the split end is the end of the root and the tooth itself is the broken shinier end?

You are right, and also Austex about the Kendriodontid Odontocete. I presume they were bigger as ancestors in the Miocene, than the modern species. Maybe Boesse (our member of this Forum) could guide you through the right way.
