Chiquita
I found this rock in Southern Utah's Redrock country. It stood out to me because all the surrounding rock was red sandstone. It's about 2" long and I am wondering if it's possibly an actual bone fragment?
Troodon
Sorry its not bone. It's geologic and I'm sure someone can tell you exactly what it is.
Fossildude19
I agree - not a fossil, but possibly a chert or flint nodule? Mother nature sure likes to impersonate fossils. Keep looking! Plax
what fossil dude said but possibly after sponge. the red sandstone may be terra rosa from sandy limestone. There seems to be some fine detailed structure in the shape of a row of tiny dots. I think the mega ornamentation are conchoidal fractures possibly but could represent sponge colony structure. Chiquita
Darn that it isn't a fossil, but interesting that some of the it could possibly be a sponge colony structure. Thanks all for your input, I am learning a lot.
