New Members SALUKIS97 Posted October 6, 2015 New Members Share Posted October 6, 2015 (edited) Found this in a large creek in Southern Illinois when I was a kid. My daughter was asking me about it last night. I've always thought it looked peculiar, so I told her I would ask around about it. It's got several shell prints in it that I can see, and is obviously not the whole piece. The circular aspect of it is interesting to me, but I'll leave that up to you experts to decide. Thanks for looking! Edited October 6, 2015 by SALUKIS97
Fossildude19
Welcome to the Forum. Unfortunately, the pictures are quite small. I cannot make out any detail. Also, what size is the item? My first thought was that it could be a gastropod or goniatite imprint. I will reserve my final opinion pending further, larger detailed pictures. New Members SALUKIS97 Posted October 6, 2015 Author New Members Share Posted October 6, 2015 Thank you for the quick reply. The piece is slightly larger than my hand altogether. I'll try to post larger pics.
New Members SALUKIS97 Posted October 6, 2015 Author New Members Share Posted October 6, 2015 Ok, well, I got a couple larger pics added I think. Hope that helps. Thanks
Fossildude19
Much better. Thanks for the new pics. The size I think nixes out the gastropod/goniatite idea. Maybe the remains of an eroded sponge? Not sure. Hope others will chime in here. abyssunder
My guess would be a stromatoporoid. Is possible to show pictures from the opposite side of the specimen?
