garyc
I know this is a long shot, but since this is the best chunk of skull I've found I thought I'd see if there are any identifiable features that anyone recognizes. Mike from North Queensland
This has got me intrigued as I have never seen a skull section with so many holes so it reminds me more of a volcanic type rock. Yet the last photo to me looks like bone. The only thing that comes to mind is an ulcerated bone growth caused by infection. Will follow this one and hope there is a simple identification. DE&i
I can certainly see some atlas axis vertebrae characteristics. Regards.....D&E&i The only certainty with fossil hunting is the uncertainty. https://lnk.bio/Darren.Withers

Auspex
Mammoth and mastodon skulls have many large cavities in the bone similar to this. My first thought was hose-nose; their skulls have lots of weight-reducing voids. Hard to create certainty from a small piece, though. Xiphactinus
Any large skull has those voids....bison, sloth....it's tough to tell from the chunk. It's sure interesting!
garyc
I figured it was from a rather large beast. I can say by the weight of this fragment, I would hate to carry the whole thing around on my shoulders!
LordTrilobite
Indeed. Probably part of the skull of a large mammal. Olof Moleman AKA Lord Trilobite
