Chiquita
Found this rock in Southern Utah at Lake Powell. Wondering if organic or not?

Chiquita
Would you say it is magma filling in the cracks of the rock then? How does one differentiate between biologic versus geologic? Thanks for your help in advance!
ynot
Do not see igneus rock, no magma filled cracks. Looks more like iron oxide filled crack. The texture, shape, patterns (internal and external) and symmetry, or their absence, all play a role in the identification of a fossil or other rock. Sometimes it is very hard to determine whether a rock is biologic or not, and sometimes it is very easy. Tony
Chiquita
Okay, thanks Tony. That is helpful information. My original thought was geologic, but I wanted to make sure.
