Have any of you seen an Archimedes like this?

Hey guys!

I found this pretty awesome (in my opinion) Archimedes in some oolitic limestone in Hopkinsville, KY several years ago. I didn't pick it away, it was already broken the way it is, but I still think it is pretty amazing the way you can see the fans still attached to the stalk and the perfect spacing between. All I have ever seen in the past are the little "corkscrews" and pieces of the "lace" dispursed in-matrix, so I was pretty excited to find this. Recently, I started wondering if anyone else has found anything similar because it seems so unlikely for one to be preserved intact like this.

I would love to hear your feedback!

That's a good one.

I have two from Alabama that have the fans intact, but neither is cleaved exactly thru the center screw like yours.

It must have lived in very gentle waters, and been buried quickly in silt, to be preserved so intact.

Thanks for sharing. Quite the specimen!

No, never found one remotely that large in our Carboniferous . Just 3 cm or so max specimens.

Bryozoa are curious beasties. It's interesting how they preserve differently in various formations. Some hash plates will be full of the lacy parts of Bryozoa...others more the structure.
