Mike Pocock
Well I finally got around to taking the images of my finds I think I had a lucky trip and got lots of goodies. Just to let you all know that I always collect fragments as well as whole fossils as I use them as gifts for children that I run a fossil lesson for at a local school. Mike Pocock
Hi Ludwigia and elegantoceras, It is only a small piece but lots going on as you say, what caught your collective eyes? Can you ID the ammonite it may be one I don't have and can add to my collection I haven't had a really good look at all of the finds I spent a lot of time prepping the ammonite I put on the gallery last week. Ludwigia
I was thinking Catacoeloceras. Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Roger http://www.steinkern.de/
Mike Pocock
Hi Ludwigia, I spent a few hrs last night looking at it and doing some comparisons and I came up with Catacoeloceras as well, but I have to admit that I am still finding IDing the ammonites difficult when you come away from the more common ones, and then don't have much confidence in the ID as I talk myself out of it, and then start again, only to come back to the one I thought it was. If that makes sense !!!!!!!!! Regards Mike
Ludwigia
I know the feeling only too well. Just put a sp. and maybe a question mark at the end and leave it at that for the time being. You could also post it in the UKGE Discuss Fossils forum. AndyS, one of the moderators there is an expert at identifying these things. Check out his post in the Members Identification Database on the Ammonites of the Yorkshire Upper Lias, or you could even send him a PM with a photo. Greetings from the Lake of Constance.
