JohnJ
It's a radius. Not sure if it is Bos or Bison. The human mind has the ability to believe anything is true. - JJ
Harry Pristis
Bovid radius is a reasonable guess, but I don't think that's right. This is a fused radio-ulna, which is correct for bovids; but, the ulna is without the prominent proximal head seen in bovids. (I don't see evidence that the proximal head is broken off.) I think this bone may be the radio-ulna of a tapir. The radius and ulna are sometimes fused in tapirs, sometimes not, based on my small sample. It's my best guess. monsterrack
I hope these photos are better, but from what I see it looks different some what from the photos posted of another Tapir ulnar. The last photo shows were a section of bone is missing? This bone is 12in long and 3 1/2 in wide at the ends, hope this helps. Thanks for all the input on my bones, I'm really excited by my finds so far. I have never found this many bones in one small area and in such good shape. Can anyone give me a site name that I can look up prehistoric bones that would be found in my area of S.W. Ms., to compare some of my finds and to educate myself?

I don't see anything in the newer images that would cause me to alter my best guess. Do let us know what you learn about the bone. http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest
